But now that I live quite literally a hop, skip and a jump away from Dodger Stadium, I find myself at a baseball crossroads. Who to cheer for? Must I select a team? I don't really follow baseball--or any sport for that matter. The exception, of course, is UFC. Earlier today though, my Facebook news feed was flooded with the following status updates: "Let's go Halos!" "C'mon Dodger blue!" And the like. A Facebook divided...Nowadays, my "almost home" marker while busing is:
This morning as I was rushing out the door, I grabbed Azar Nafisi's Reading Lolita in Tehran. Rather noisy buses to and from work this morning prevented me from getting too far into the novel but so far, yowzers. I feel like I'm an outsider--these women, these lovers of literature are essentially forced to study what they love in secret. The clandestine meetings, their apprehensive thoughts, the removal of ethnic garments. Should I be looking? Have you read the novel? Did you feel the same way?Big A image from Wikimedia Commons.

Oh, sports. I'm so out of the loop when it comes to that. The only reason why I knew that the Red Sox won the World Series was because that night, there was a drunken parade outside my window (I lived a few blocks from Fenway Park).
It's insane how in some cultures, something as basic to us as learning and reading, is considered heresy.
True Confession:
I lived in Boston for nearly eight years and never once set foot in Fenway Stadium.
Even I have to admit that that's a little strange.
Woo-hoo! I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who doesn't follow hometown sports. Though, if the Dodgers or Angels make it to the playoffs (is that what they're called?) I may have to buy a cap just so I'm not chased out of the city.
