The driver in the first car was reading the paper. I leaned in and gave him my work address. It was 8:30. Nervously, I hopped in and watched the meter go up, up, up. I took out Reading Lolita in Tehran and attempted to dive in. But those darn red numbers on the meter kept rising. My driver wove in and out of traffic, cutting people off and squeezing between cars. I know I should have been frightened, but honestly, it was pretty fun. I've never taken a cab by myself and I couldn't help but imagine that I was some fancy business person off to an important meeting. However, if you consider my office building's annual fire drill (held Friday morning!) of any importance, then I suppose my fantasy was partly true. Also, the driver switched radio stations a lot. He'd flip to a pop station, then love songs, then oldies. It didn't stop. Until, he came to this song.
He cranked that ish up. Also, I'm pretty sure I heard him singing along quietly. But really, who doesn't love Michael McDonald? We rolled up to my building at 8:55. Uber impressive. Back in my driving days, it could take upwards of 45 minutes for me to get to work. Guess we can't all be super stars behind the wheel. If you're curious, my fare from Los Feliz to Mid-Wilshire plus tip was $30. Not sure if that was a good deal or not, but at the moment, it was absolutely worth it.
Since he's wonderfully awesome and knew that I'd had something of a stressful week, the BF picked me up that afternoon and whisked me off to one of our favorite neighborhood spots for dinner. I promptly ordered a chocolate shake.
On Saturday, we celebrated the BF's Uncle Craig's birthday. Like most boys the BF's handwriting is kinda scratchy. So when he wrote "Uncle Craig" on our card, it looked more like "Urcle Crais" Nothing like memories of old school shows to put a smile on my face. Urcle Crais decided his birthday festivities should include dinner at...wait for it, Bob's Big Boy. My head just about exploded when I heard the fantastic news. I heart The Big Boy (aka TBB) like no tomorrow. See, TBB was my first crush. Waaaay back in the day, the fam and I would go to the location in Anaheim (now a Skechers outlet) just about once a week. My favorite part of the experience was shyly walking up to TBB and asking about his day. After dinner last night, the BF was gracious enough to snap a pic of me and my old flame.
Then we headed over to Whittier to visit our good friends from Welcome to my humble ablog. I mostly oggled over their new tanker desk. Check it:
Gorgeous, right? So very Mad Men.As if the weekend couldn't get any better, yesterday we received an invite from my dear friend Genius John to check out his hip new place in Santa Monica. Of course, I'm thrilled but my excitement grew tenfold when earlier today, he texted "You guys better bring your appetites."
Holy smokes. The party's 6:30 start time can't come soon enough.
And what about you my dears? Any fun weekend activities?

Awe, thanks for the plug. I still need to take better pictures of the desk. It's too bad we didn't get to chit chat more the other night...but it was late and there was work to be done. Next time. ^_^
What a fantastically interesting post. I laughed at the taxi episode...LOL and when I saw you and the Big Boy, it brought back memories of the Big Boy we used to frequent when my kids were small. (It's not around these parts any longer).
Have a great week Rosemary!
Ah, crazy taxi drivers, haha! I find that most cab drivers are either radio surfers or big-time talkers. You got yourself a radio surfer that morning! And whoa, I can see why you had a little crush on Big Boy, haha! Look at that charming little expression he's got!
Big Boy is ogling your goods!
Welcome to My Humble Ablog- I'm all about plugs! We'll chat soon, and I'm completely on your side about this "tabar" nonsense.
Diane- Thanks! Big Boy is totally making a comeback.
Amy- I'm so thankful I got a radio surfer and NOT a talker. And, yeah, what a looker Big Boy is, right?
Joanna- Ha! I just noticed that. I bet if I'd be alone, he would have totally made a move!
Looks like Big Boy has a crush on you as well! You've had one hell of a weekend, for sure!
Hazra- Thanks for stopping by! And yes, it was one of the best weekends I've had in awhile! :)
