Last fall, I gave up my car for a bus pass. I try to read a book a week on the bus but mostly I just avoid eye contact with other passengers.

Week in Review

Yesterday afternoon, I called the BF right before I left the office. It went to voicemail. I figured he was in traffic and not answering his phone. However, at that moment, he was actually pulling into my building's parking lot. He planned on surprising me with a ride home. But. Silly me, I walked out of the building and straight to the bus stop. Boarded the rapid and headed home. I didn't check my phone (which was on silent!) until I made my transfer in Los Feliz. The BF had waited in the office's lot for 45 minutes! Communication FAIL. However, we did have something of a laugh about it once we were both home.

This morning, as I was chugging through Infinite Jest, I noticed a familiar face board my local bus shortly after I climbed on. When I got off the bus to make my transfer and the familiar face did the same, I knew it! He and I work for the same company. Different departments, though.

Me: Hey, do you work for TGIF?

TGIF is not really my company's name. But I do tend to refer to it by its acronym. Most employees do. Most of us.

Familiar face: Huh? Uh...

Me: (silently) Oh no. I've mistaken him for someone else. And now he thinks I'm hitting on him. Gah!

Familiar face: Oh! Oh, you mean Thank God It's Friday! Right, yeah, I do. I work in advertising. And you?

Thankfully, the awkwardness was gone and we had a hilarious conversation about the reactions we receive when other peeps find out we bus it. Everything from sympathy to horror.

Lastly, some sad news. I recently found out that my dear Aunt J was diagnosed with breast cancer. It runs in our family; my Grandma is a survivor of over 10 years. She and I try to do the OC Komen walk every year. Thankfully, Aunt J's doctor's caught it early and they feel surgery should put the brakes on the badness. I debated on posting this--it's such a personal and obviously emotional topic. I'll leave you to imagine the wreck I was in when I first heard the news. But in the end, I decided to go with it. Aunt J is a pretty regular reader of the blog and if anyone needs a shout out or a virtual hug, it's her. Love you Aunt J!

A pic from my college graduation with some of my favorite women in the world, including Aunt J. Since my mom's mysteriously missing from this pic, I'm convinced she was the one behind the camera. Left to right: me, Grandma, BF's mom, Aunt J, Aunt T and cousin Helen (aka Barbie car crusher).

My best wishes to your Aunt J! It's a good thing doctors caught it early, and I'm sure she'll recover beautifully. After all, it seems your family is full of strong women. :)

So funny to hear about your fiance/ride home fiasco! It's pretty adorable that he wanted to surprise you with a ride home! ^^
