For reasons unknown to any who've glanced inside a crayola box, Anthro describes this color as red. Coral, yes. Pink, sure. Orange, maybe. But red? No way. I'm still undecided about bridesmaids gear. But I do think Ro needs to add it to her closet regardless. Isn't she too adorable in this?
While digging through racks for bridesmaids ideas, we stumbled upon this lovely number that Ro demanded I try on. Sigh. Doesn't it scream engagement party? Or rehearsal dinner?
A few weeks ago, my dear friend Meg invited me to be her plus one at a Wedding Salon held this afternoon at The London in West Hollywood. See, Meg is a (super talented!) wedding photographer so she always has the inside scoop on all things bridal. But! The waay exciting bit is that Meg got engaged just a spell ago so we got to attend the event not as photographer and bride but as bride and bride. Too cool, right?! FYI, I took all the pix below with my iphone. Cleary, Meg's work is well...go check it out.
We sampled some huge slices of tasty cake. Though I really could have used a glass of milk.

Meg was excited to check out the bridesmaids dresses by twobirds. Especially since one of Meg's bridesmaids (and also an awesome photog), Heather rallied at The London with us.

While I remain totally undecided on my dress for the big day, I've said again and again that I wanted something simple. Understated. Plain. But then. I saw this gal rocking Monique Lhuillier. Um, yowza.
I've been thinking a lot about The Impostor's Daughter over the past week. Sandell presents this wholly intimate work. While reading, I often found myself hoping she wouldn't act so aggressively toward her mother or so self-destructive in her romantic adventures. It was like...watching a friend. Cringe worthy to be sure. Sandell's illustrations, while not exactly whimsy, really do provide a buffer from the content. As The Impostor's Daughter is packed with family drama, experiencing such heaviness in a lovely colorful medium makes it more accessible. Also, it's hilarious--one of the funnier scenes involves Laurie coming to terms with her Ambien addiction. She explains that "'sleep-eating' was a known side effect of Ambien: I had started waking up with prepared plates a food in my bed." Laurie awakes in bed to find "Cheese. Crackers. Knife. (Hey, at least I was classy.)" HA!
Here, Laurie's feeling confused, conflicted, the whole lot. Her article exposing her father's impostoring (yes, impostoring) has been published. All I could think of however, was The Devil Wears Prada. The hair, the boots, the magazines! The movie came out right as I graduated college. Fashionable Ro, her sister and I saw it opening weekend. As we walked out of the theater, Ro said "Oh, you're Andy! You're going to be like Andy!" I nodded my head eagerly. Soon after, I ran out and got the Andy/Anne Hathaway haircut. Thankfully, the bangs grew out.Illustration from Laurie Sandell.

You're right, that picture totally screams Devil Wears Prada! Were the bangs really that horrific on you? I feel like you would have looked super cute with that cut!
"Impostoring"? Must consult the trusty Oxford Dictionary. Unless this is a case of Sandell's "literary freedom" in making up words.
The little black dress = engagement party. Also, I cannot -wait- to see what you have in mind for the wedding gown. :)
Amy- The bangs were fine at first. But the growing out part was awful. They were forever too short to tuck behind my ears and forever just long enough to poke my eyes. Bobby pins and headbands were my best friends in those days! ;)
LOL, impostoring, my own invention--though wouldn't be surprised if I absent mindedly lifted from Sandell. ;)
That dress is for sure going to be mine. Hopefully it will go on sale first!
