Last fall, I gave up my car for a bus pass. I try to read a book a week on the bus but mostly I just avoid eye contact with other passengers.

Goody Price

This time around, Booking it Through Thursday wonders:

What’s the most enjoyable, most fun, most just-darn-entertaining book you’ve read recently?

(Mind you, this doesn’t necessarily mean funny, since we covered that already. Just … GOOD.)

Ooh, toughie. I've read lots of goodies lately. However, one stuck out in my head: The Posionwood Bible. I loveloveloved this book. Read it every free moment I had--I even packed it in my carry on luggage to Reno. Kingsolver created a world that was simply engaging. I thought about the characters when I wasn't reading, I worried for them when I was. Such deliciousness.

What about you, my goody two shoes? What recent good books have you come across?

Hmm...speaking of shoes, I'm thinking about splurging on the wedding kicks. Eek!

Lovely shoe image from Neiman Marcus. Drool...

Great blog; I'll be back :)

You are making me wish that Borders would send out another coupon already! I have a pretty silly question, though: would I have to have an in-depth knowledge of the Bible to "get" Poisonwood Bible?

PS. Those shoes are hot. I believe they're the exact ones my friend and I made a joke about saving change to buy. Can you imagine? About $1000+ dollars in change?

The only Barbara Kingsolver book I've read is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. But since I keep hearing so many good things about her fiction, especially The Poisonwood Bible, I am going to try to make sure and read it soon!

ibeeeg- You'll love it. It's a fun, quick, entertaining, smart read.

Diane- Once you start, you'll find it's hard to put down. Thanks for your kind words! :)

Amy Kelinda- Borders is so fickle with their coupons, aren't they?! No knowledge of the Bible is necessary to enjoy Poisonwood. :) And if you and your pal shared the heels, it'd only be $500 from each of you! Though with shoes like that, I'd want to keep 'em all to myself!

Alison Fletcher: I heard such mixed reviews about Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. Give Poisonwood a shot and let me know your thoughts! :)

Melanie- Aren't they divine?! They put poor Dorothy to shame.

It's not fiction but the book I'm really enjoying now is "L.A. Noir," a history of crime and law enforcement (sometimes the same thing) in Forties L.A.

In addition to the extremely sordid methods of the police, there's lots of interesting LA history. For instance, the first neon sign was at Wilshire and La Brea.

And the New Beverly Cinema was the site of a very posh supper club and right next door to it was headquarters of Mickey Cohen, *the* number one LA gangster (after Bugsy Siegel got shot).
